Welcome to Dance Camera West 2003!
May 2-27 Los Angeles

Last year, Dance Camera West was launched in Los Angeles as a special event hosted by Friday Nights at the Getty. Sold out shows and enthusiastic audiences inspired us! This year’s festival expands into a month-long event and features 10 different programs at a number of L.A. venues.

For 2003 we are able to bring a wider variety of never-before-seen dance films to Los Angeles which we have selected by attending international festivals and sending out an extensive call to artists.

The second annual Dance Camera West Festival offers the most outstanding examples of a rich medium that smashes the boundaries to redefine both dance and cinema.

Selected from over 175 entries from around the world, these dance films present an array of humor, drama, beauty and rhythm not usually seen on film or stage.

Dance for screen uses every setting or landscape imaginable, pushing technology, carving out space, altering time and often relinquishing cinematic narrative. Combining movement of both imagery and body, this art form stretches our imaginations and the way we think about dance.

We hope you’ll find these films enticing, challenging
and inspiring.
