Director: Charles Atlas. Choreography: Merce Cunningham. Music: John Cage. Costumes: James Hall.

Merce Cunningham was one of the first choreographers to create dance originally for film, instead of adapting choreography first created for the stage. He had realized that film and television have a completely different use of space than the stage and decided to collaborate with a filmmaker, Charles Atlas, to create dances particularly for that kind of space. Since the 1970s, Merce created eleven (11) film dances with filmmakers-in-residence (Charles Atlas then Elliot Caplan) and the documentaries Cage/Cunningham (1991) and CRWDSPCR (1996) with Elliot Caplan. Merce has returned to film in the last few years and recently finished Views on Camera with collaborator Charles Atlas who also made the film Merce Cunningham: A Lifetime of Dance (2000).

Their newest new work, Views On Camera, with music by John Cage and costumes by James Hall was created in two forms and was shot on location in New York City this past August. Also, on the program will be Channels/Inserts (1983 25 min) and a preview of work in progress Views on Video (9 mins.)
