Wednesday, July 29, DCW takes the spotlight at MovementFest LA with a one-night-only screening featuring selections from the DCW archives and newer work from LA POPS UP, highlighting Los Angeles–based artists. Together, the program celebrates DCW’s role in transforming LA into a vibrant home for screen dance—introducing audiences to groundbreaking international films while also cultivating the artists expanding the form here today.

Selected from the DCW archives are three historically significant international films that reflect the innovative and influential films that played role in establishing DCW: Touched by Wendy Houstoun and David Hinton (UK, 1991); Reines d’un Jour by Pascal Magnin (Switzerland, 1996); and There Is a Place by Katrina McPherson and Simon Fildes (UK, 2010).

LA POPS UP, an initiative from Kitty McNamee and Hysterica Productions highlights contemporary Los Angeles–based artists. The program features work by Mike Tyus, Luca Renzi, Joy Brown, Mike Cruz, Danny Dolan, Nicole Spring, Stephanie Kim, Ryan Spencer, Keean Johnson, Paul Zivcovich, Or Schrader, and Charissa Kroeger.

MovementFest LA brings L.A. Dance Project’s studios to life from July 27–August 9, connecting the many ways dance is trained, created, performed, and shared with the public. Through its programming arm, LADP Presents, L.A. Dance Project provides space and a platform for non-repertory work by affiliate artists and partners, including performances, film screenings, cross-disciplinary projects, and educational and community-focused initiatives.
